Building a “digital culture”

Building a digital culture for the sake of it, is not advisable. But if this pandemic has not taught us the “need for digital culture” then what have we learned from this pandemic, for our businesses?

Real Estate business is messy when it comes to getting digital. At the same time that is the only reason we should create a digital culture.

Why should we have a digital culture?

·         Almost 80% of our work force work at something called, site!

·         Almost all of our expenses are done for the site and

·         Almost all of our success depends on buyers coming from different location to visit our site before they buy.

·         All in all –there are a lot of things that are happening which we can’t be control sitting in office.

So we need information and system that will give us real time pulse of what’s happening. The office and site must be well connected and must be on the same platform digitally as these two can never work in the same premises.

What is digital culture?

Simply put take 5 most important problems that you face in the organization and go to the root of it there is either

1.       Miscommunication

2.       Lack of clarity

3.       Information mismanagement

4.       Delayed action

5.       Lack of documentation

Now does that ring the bell?

So what a core team of any organization should do is to start with bringing digital culture with in themselves first and then percolate the most essentials to the bottom of the pyramid.

Top 5 Digital Culture implementations you can immediately do without spending a penny.

1.       Google Calendar- Make sure no meeting or call is unscheduled and non-google calendared. Make your calendar visible to all the team mates that any point of time will as for a call or meeting. Seems simple but very impactful when it comes to managing the distraction and making your day productive.

2.       One official communication tool- Don’t use Email and  whatsapp and drive and  5 other tools to share information or files. Make it a rule- Use only –“   __________    “ for office communication nothing else. One office one tool of communication. Make this rule you will feel the mess has been reduced to half.

3.       Cloud – Every company must have an official cloud account and all cloud accounts are free up to certain time or certain GB. Make sure you’re your most important documents are well curated and saved on the cloud. Start with something really important and some day you should have your entire office on cloud.

4.       No meetings- Especially, if you could make your site people work from site, and all the site- office meetings done on the any of the video calling platform that will be a big shift in culture towards digitization. Make your site internet friendly. Now it is as important as water.

5.       Create a digital policy for this year- Carving out however small it may be, but a budget for the tech and digital culture is a must. Get help of tech expert or consultant for creating this Digital policy of the year start with 25000/- for Digital Culture. Is that ok?
